(11/1/11) This past Friday, the Hornets traveled to De Anza to take on an improved Dons squad. We were happy to play a full four quarters of football and come home with the 35-0 win. Every member of the team contributed to the win and senior Johnson Le put the exclamation point at the end with a big sack to finish the game. Our focus through the week was on finishing, so to see this response from the hard working senior, was great. We kept the ball on the ground a bit more in this game, with Adham Awa and Antonio Manibusan both going over 100 yards on the night. The offensive line asserted themselves upfront. They have been a group that has shown skill in the passing game and increased toughness in the running game. Olisa Chibueze, Jim Ruck, Declan Shener, Jared Carmon and Rhys Morgan (unsung heroes) look to continue to win up front this week at Hercules, key OL back-ups Marlas Wilson-Foster and Joe Ruck also help pave the way. Jesse Lewis and Antonio Manibusan both did well through the air as well, with Keelan Doss, Chris Bussey and Weston Tolbert having nice nights catching the ball. The linebacking corps led the way on defense in the shut out, as Frank Muzio and Jack Rausser led the team in tackles. Nate Ruttan had a key pick and Keelan Doss added a pick as well. This week at Hercules is a game we are excited to play. We are thankful for every opportunity to perform on Friday nights and the student-athletes understand they need to finish strong and play as well as they have in their young football careers. Please make the trek and support your 2011 Alameda Hornets in the final contest of the ACCAL season. Go Hornets! ~ Coach Moyer
(10/5/11) I thank God, family and friends, There is a lesson to be learned in the game vs. Berkeley. Our kids learned the physicality of the game. Size does matter! In the off-season, we will have to address this and work even harder in the weight room. There are many reason for our below average showing. The #1 reason is injuries. There are many to say the least. We have had four QBs injured or out sick, which I have never heard of. We will work through these issues and be ready for Pinole."
(10/14/11) The freshman team got back on the winning track this week defeating Moreau 20-6 in Hayward. Quarterback Eli Hernandez scored 2 touchdowns, fullback Antony Campos scored a touchdown and Ricky Jordan, making his first start at halfback, scored the 2pt. conversion and had 67 yards rushing. The defense was once again led by Rahman Kelly who had 5 tackles for losses. Strong safety Alex Vick had an interception that stopped a Moreau touchdown drive and nose guard Joe Madarasz recovered a fumble that sealed the game. Back up QB Alex Rados did a great job filling in for Hernandez when Eli was banged up in the second quarter. This week the freshman travel to Fremont to take on California School of the Deaf at 4:00 pm. | |||||||||
