* League Matches
Newark Memorial: WIN, 195-248
Feb 22nd had us opening our golf season with home match against Newark Memorial. To open a season with a sub two hundred round suggests that we should be quite competitive this year. The final score was Alameda 195 and Newark 248. Leading all scorers was Justin Saco with a brilliant one over par 36. Marco Gonzalez was just a stroke back with a 37. Dakare Dixon Essien had a 40 and the scoring was closed out with a pair of 41's from Seigo Ma and freshman Shawn Carroll. Congrats to the entire team for the strong opening roundMission San Jose: WIN, 203-213
Our second match of the season was against a very good Mission San Jose team. Conditions were not the best as all the rain made for a few extra lakes but the hornets prevailed with a 203 to 213 win. Dakare Dixon-Essien led the way with a 39 and then 41's were wild as four players were at that score -- Josh Yuen, Marco Gonzalez, Andrew Choi and Shawn Carroll. Fine playing, given the conditions we had to deal with.Newark Memorial: WIN, 207-239
Thursday the 25th had us traveling to Sunol to gain some good experience at hills and valleys -- Final result was Alameda 207, Newark 239. Seigo Ma led all scorers with a 40. Freshman Andrew Choi closely followed with a 41 and Dakare Dixon-Essien, Marco Gonzalez and Nate Lilly all scored 42's. An In & Out stop closed out the day.St. Joe's: WIN, 196-246
This past Monday's match earned the hornets another sub 200 round. The final score was Alameda 196, St Josephs 246. Leading the way was Dakare Dixon-Essien with a great one-over par 36. Seigo Ma was just a couple of strokes back at 38 and Marco Gonzalez just one more stroke back at 39. Andrew Choi came in with a solid 41 and Justin Saco closed things out with a 42. Players who played as extras, and their numbers are evaluated as we look to the next match, also posted outstanding scores. Shawn Carroll predicted a 37 before the match and he delivered... Derek Snediker came in with a 40 and Nick Beach with a 41. Great playing by all.De Anza: WIN, 215-305
Last night, we opened league play for the season with a resounding win over De Anza 215 to 305. Leading the way was freshman Derek Snediker with a 41, closely followed by sophomore Nick Beach with a 42. Marco Gonzalez and Seigo Ma both carded 43's and the scoring was closed out with a 46 by freshman Andrew Choi. Good scoring considering the bitter cold and strong winds out there.Richmond: WIN, by forfeit
Richmond continues to build their program and didn't quite have enough players to constitute a match so it was a forfeit win for us.
We did play the round and once again showed very well with another sub 200 round. Seigo Ma led the way with a strong 37 with Marco Gonzalez just a couple of strokes back with a 39. Justin Saco and Derek Snediker both carded 40's while Nick Beach closed the scoring out with a 42. Total score was 198. Nice weather helped improve our scores from a couple of days ago. Next week has us on the road against Hercules and Berkeley.Washington: WIN, 201-278
The Hornets continued with another strong showing winning over Washington HS 201 - 278. Dakare Dixon-Essien scored an excellent three over 38 -- Seigo Ma closely followed with a 39 and Marco Gonzalez just another stroke back at 40. Nick Beach and Derek Snediker closed out the scoring with 42 each. Today resumes league play with an away match at Franklin vs. Hercules. Depth continues to be our mainstay - great play by all.Hercules: WIN, 195-268
Last night we resumed league play with outstanding results at Franklin Canyon -- Alameda 195, Hercules 268. Seigo Ma led all scorers with a fantastic par 36. Josh Yuen was just a stroke back at 37 and Nick Beach also under 40 with a 39. Dakare Dixon-Essien scored a 41 and our fifth score came in at a 42 by Derek Snediker. Great play all around and after tying our best score to date this season, we look forward to our big match with rival Berkeley on Thursday.Berkeley: WIN, 197-234
Another fine sub 200 round for the hornets.... Yesterday had us playing our long time rival Berkeley at Tilden Park and the hornets showed the way with a resounding win over Berkeley 197 - 234. Dakare Dixon-Essien had an outstanding score leading the way with a 35. We've had several different players lead the way this season, but Dakare has been visiting that spot most often. Closely following was frosh Derek Snediker with a strong 38 (first time playing this course for Derek), and Justin Saco just another stroke back at 39. Seigo Ma was just one more stroke back with a 40 and Marco Gonzalez closed out the scoring with a 45. Great team effort!El Cerrito: WIN, by forfeit
The Hornets encountered another team without sufficient players so we had another forfeit win, but we of course played the round and ended up with the round number of 200 for the day - a very good score given the fact that the greens were punched/sanded so putting was not at all normal. Dakare Dixon-Essien once again led all scorers with a two over par 37 and Justin Saco was just a stroke back at 38. Seigo Ma came in with a 40 and Nick Beach with a 42. Marco Gonzalez and Derek Snediker closed things out scoring 43 each. Thursday's home match will be against the experienced Pinole Valley team.Pinole: WIN, 191-240
The Hornets had not only their best score of the season, but their best team score in many years.......... Alameda 191, Pinole Valley 240 Josh Yuen cam in with just a stroke over par at 36, Dakare Dixon-Essien and Justin Saco both just a couple of strokes back at 38. Seigo Ma carded a 39 and both Marco Gonzalez and Derek Snediker closed things out 40's each. Brilliant play by all. Two away matches next week and then the Spring break.Richmond & Pinole: A WIN-WIN, 203 - 242 & 316
We had a tri-match this afternoon against Richmond and Pinole Valley at Franklin Canyon. Final score was Alameda 203, Pinole Valley 242 and Richmond 316. Dakare Dixon-Essien led all scorers with a very solid one over par 37 and that was very closely followed by Derek Snedikers 38. Seigo Ma carded a 41 and Shawn Carroll a 43 while the scoring was rounded out with 44's from both Marco Gonzalez and Nick Beach. Very good play for our first play in 10 days or so.Hercules: WIN, 200-303
Tax day had Hercules coming to visit us at Corica -- final result was Alameda 200, Hercules 303. Andrew Choi led all scorers with a very strong one over par 36 - it was great to have his experience return to the lineup. Shawn Carroll was just three strokes back at 39 and Seigo Ma just another stroke back at 40. Derek Snediker was just one more stroke back with a solid 41 and Nick Clementi (congrats on his first run in the starting six) closed out the scoring with a 44. Our last home match of the season will be next Tuesday when Berkeley comes to Corica for a 3:30 start time.Berkeley: WIN, 204-242
Forty two's were wild Tuesday afternoon as five players, Andrew Choi, Derek Snediker, Shawn Carroll, Justin Saco and Nick Beach all carded the same numbers. Josh Yuen had a very good 40 and Seigo Ma closed things out with a solid 38. Strong winds and cooler weather made things a bit tougher out there today. Final score was Alameda 204, Berkeley 242. Our last regular season league match happens Thursday at Mira Vista against El Cerrito.ACCAL: WIN, Alameda 396, Pinole Valley 434, and Berkeley 445
For the ACCAL tourney at Tilden, ending our league season play, the top three schools were as follows -- Alameda 396, Pinole Valley 434, and Berkeley 445. Congrats to the entire team for a solid ACCAL league championship round. Whenever you can score a sub 400 round counting five players for 18 holes, you've scored a strong round -- we're looking forward to the NCS championship round in Arcata on May 17th. Since we have won the league, we do not have to participate in the qualifier round at Metro -- we leapfrog directly to Baywood in Northern California. Leading all scorers at the league tournament was Justin Saco with an impressive 75 and just a couple of strokes back was Josh Yuen at 77. All six Alameda starters finished in the top ten, including the top four, so all of our starters earned the all league medal. Congrats to all for such a fine showing. Besides the two scores mentioned above, Andrew Choi scored an 80, Shawn Carroll an 81, Derek Snediker an 83 and Seigo Ma with an 84.NCS: Loss, Alameda 417
The range of scores was 372 to 476 Foothill had the best score and Willits the highest score. The Hornets ended up about mid-pack with a 417, edging out Piedmont who had a 421.
