GAME #2: Hornets 4, #2 Petaluma 5
The Alameda Hornets fell just short in their second round NCS 5 to 4 loss to the Petaluma Trojans. Katherine Johnson pitched a 6-hit complete game. Petaluma jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead in the bottom of the first but the Hornets tied the game with two runs in the second inning. They went ahead 4 to 2 in the 4th inning with two more runs but Petaluma scored two runs in the bottom of the forth and one more in the bottom of the sixth to eke out the victory and move to the semi-finals. Katherine Johnson had a single and a double and an RBI. Drew Jones had two hits, a walk, and scored two runs. Carrie Lee had the other hit, a double. Mia Musso and Jessica Ravetti in the fourth inning, and Carrie Lee in the sixth inning made highlight defensive plays. The Hornets finished their season with a 20-6 record.
GAME #1: Hornets 12, #10 Montgomery 2
Drew Jones had a game for the ages on offense and defense. Jones went 4 for 4, including a double, scored 2 runs, and had 3 RBIs to lead the Hornets to a 12-2 victory over the Montgomery Vikings. Jones also threw out 2 runners from left field, one at third and one at home. Katherine Johnson had a double and a single, walked once, and had 4 RBIs. Johnson also threw a complete game 7-hitter. Mia Musso, Alicia Fong, and Anastasia Scheichl all had two hits. The Hornets move on to play at Petaluma on Friday night.

Five senior players led the way in their last regular season game for the Alameda Hornets in their 14 to 0 win over the Hercules Titans. Aamirah Dastgir had a hit, an rbi and scored a run. Kristina Lam had a hit and hit the ball hard 3 times. Alicia Fong had a single, and a two-run home run. Katherine Johnson gave up one hit in 3 scorelsss innings to get the win. Megan Averitt had to sit out the game with an injury but coached first and called all pitches in the shutout win. We'll all miss you guys!

Spartans 3
The Alameda Hornets lost their second close game to the Pinole Valley Spartans. Two unearned runs in the second inning was the margin of victory for the Spartans. Katherine Johnson gave up 3 hits in the first two innings and only 3 hits in the next five innings for a 6-hit 1-earned run complete game striking out 5, giving up only 1 walk. Mia Musso drove in the only run in the third inning knocking in Carrie Lee who had walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and was sacrificed to third on a two-strike bunt by Kristina Lam. Mia Musso's hit was one of the Hornets 3 hits, all singles. Anastasia Scheichl and Alicia Fong had the other 2 hits for the Hornets.The Hornets kept the game close in the 1st inning when the Spartans DP hit a line drive in right center to knock in their first run. Gia Morten rand down the hit in right centerfield, threw to Anastasia Scheichl who then threw to Mia Musso who then relayed the ball to Jessica Ravetti at the plate to get the Spartan's DP trying to stretch a triple into a homerun. The Hornets threatened in the bottom in the seventh and had 2 runners on first and second with 2 outs but couldn't push across the tying runs.

Gia Morten, Alexis Konstantino, Mia Musso, Anastasia Scheichl, and Hannah Johnson all had 2 hits to lead the Hornets to an 11-1 victory over the Richmond Oilers. Konstantino and Musso also had 2 RBIs. Jessica Ravetti, Carrie Lee, Scheichl, and Hannah Johnson all had an RBI. Katherine Johnson and Carrie Lee combined on a 2-hitter.

The Alameda Hornets lost to the Berkeley Yellowjackets 10-0. Jessica Ravetti had 2 of the Hornets 5 hits. Mia Musso, Gia Morten, and Alica Fong had the other 3 hits. Drew Jones was robbed of an extra base hit when she hit drive in the gap in left center w/ the bases loaded and two outs in the third inning. The Berkeley leftfielder made a running catch to save at least 2 and possibly 3 runs.

The Alameda Hornets combined 14 hits with 12 walks to defeat the El Cerrito Gauchos 17 to 1. Kristina Lam had 2 hits, 2 walks, an RBI and scored 4 runs. Kristina Lam also got the victory giving up 2 hits, 1 run, and striking out 5 in 3 innings. Mia Musso and Aanmirah Dastgir each had 2 htis. Alexis Konstantino had 3 RBIs. Mia Musso, Drew Jones, and Hannah Johnson each had 2 RBIs. Drew Jones also had a triple. Gia Morton had a hit, walked 4 times, and scored 3 runs. Gia Morten also pitched the final 2 innings striking out 5 of the 7 hitters she faced.

The Alameda Hornets couldn't hold on to an early 2 to 0 lead in a loss to the Berkeley Yellowjackets 5-3. The Yellow Jackets scored 3 runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to overcome the Hornets. Megan Averitt had a hit, scored a run, and had 4 stolen bases. Jessica Ravetti had a sacrifice fly. Alicia Fong had a double and an RBI.

Mia Musso's bloop single in the top of the ninth inning scored Megan Averitt from second base to break a 0-0 tie and provided the Alameda Hornets the only run they needed to defeat the Clayton Valley Eagles 1-0. The Hornets got 3 of their 6 hits in the last inning. The Hornets had runners on in 7 of the 9 innings and stranded a total of 13 runners before breaking through in the ninth inning. Katherine Johnson pitched 7 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball allowing only 5 hits, striking out 4 and not allowing a base on balls. Carrie Lee relieved Johnson in the eight and struck out the number two hitter with runners on first and second and two outs. Lee retired the side in the ninth to preserve the victory. Megan Averitt threw two Eagles' runners out at to home, one in the bottom of the 8th inning preserve the shutout and victory. Averitt also went 2 for 4. Drew Jones had a double. Jessica Ravetti and Katherine Johnson also had singles for the Hornets.

The Alameda Hornets fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Pinole Valley. The Hornets scored 2 runs in the first inning a 2-out 2-run RBI single by Mia Musso. Megan Averitt and Jessica Ravetti each hit a single earlier in the inning to set up Musso's hit. The Hornets could only manage 1 hit over the next 6 innings The Hornets did come close to scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning when the Pinole Valley shortstop dove to snag Drew Jone's groundball and flipped the ball to the second to force a runner at second. That play saved the go-ahead run from scoring as the last hitter of the inning flew to left with runners on first and third. Katherine Johnson pitched 6 and two-thirds innings of 6-hit ball to take the loss.

The Alameda Hornets broke open the game with 2 runs in the fifth inning and 3 runs in the sixth inning to defeat Encinal 15-5. The Hornets had 15 hits. Anastasia Scheichl was 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs, including a double with tbe bases loaded. Jessica Ravetti was 4 for 4 with a walk, 2 RBIs, and scored 3 runs. Drew Jones hit a triple and drove in 2 runs. The Hornets offense and solid pitching led the way to an 8-4 victory over Arroyo. Eight Hornet starters had a least one hit. Jessica Ravetti led the way going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Anastasia Scheichl also had a double and 2 RBIs. Megan Averitt, Gia Morten, and Katherine Johnson had the other RBIs. Anastasia Scheichl also started a nice double play in top of the 5th. The leadoff batter got a base hit. The next batter hit a groundball to Anastasia who tagged the runner going to second and threw to first to complete the double play. Katherine Johnson pitched a complete game giving up 7 hits and no earned runs.

GAME 1
Hornets 6, American 3The Hornets rode an offense that had 12 hits in five innings and Katherine Johnson's clutch pitching to begin the Standley Cup with a win over American High of Fremont 6 to 3. Seven Hornets had at least one hit and five Hornets had at least one RBI. Drew Jones and Jessica Ravetti each had 3 hits. Drew had two RBIs. Ravetti had a double and an RBI. Megan Averitt had two hits, including a double, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Alexis Konstantino also had a double and an RBI. Katherine Johnson pitched out of a jam in the top of the fifth. She got the American High clean-up hitter to ground to second for the final out of the inning with runners on second and third and American only a run behind. The Hornets then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth and the game time ran out.
GAME 2
Hornets 0, Dragons 3A stellar pitching performance by Katherine Johnson wasn't enough to overcome Bishop O'Dowd as the Hornets fell 3-0 in 8 innings in their second game of the Standley Cup Tournament. The Hornets had the bases loaded in the first inning with one out but couldn't score. The Hornets also had two other innings where they got a runner as far as 3rd with less than two outs and couldn't score. Gia Morten had a hit and a walk. Mia Musso and Jessica Ravetti also had hits. Alexis Konstantino had a bunt for a hit. Katherine Johnson only gave up five hits over 8 innings and stuck out 9.
GAME 4
Hornets 6, Washington 1The Hornets got behind 1-0 after the top of 1st inning. They climbed back in with some help from Washington's 8 walks and timely hitting to scored 3 runs in the seccond innning, two more in the third inning and a final run run in a the fifth to get the victory in the Standley Cup semifinals 6-1. Anastasia Scheichl had a huge offensive day with 3 of the Hornets 6 hits, 2 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases. Jessica Ravetti had a hit and 2 RBIs. Alexis Konstantino had an RBI. Carrie Lee threw a complete game six hitter, walking none, and striking out 7. The victory moved the Hornets into the championship game against Castro Valley.

GAME 5
Hornets 2, Clayton Valley 1 (9 innings)The tournament MVP, Katherine Johnson, pitched a perfect game for 8 and 2/3 innings and hit the first run in w/ a triple as Alameda won 2-1. The second and game winning run was knocked in by Mia Musso on a groundout. The Hornets avoided a potential loss by throwing out the winning run at the plate in the 8th inning on a bang-bang play at the plate. The throw by Alicia Fong to Jessica Ravetti just got the Clayton Valley runner to preserve the 0-0 tie. Three out of the four teams in the Hornets tournament bracket had 2-1 records. The Hornets won the tie-breaker by allowing the least number of runs (7) and enabled them to move on to the semi-finals against Washington High.

GAME 6 - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Hornets 6, Castro Valley 2The Hornets fell behind again 1-0 in the first inning just like the semifinal game but came back with a single run in the 4th inning, 2 runs in the 5th inning, and 3 more runs in the 6th inning to withstand a valiant comeback effort from the Castro Valley Trojans to win 6-2. Katherine Johnson sealed the tournament MVP by pitching her third complete game and a total of 24 innings in less than 24 hours. Jessica Ravetti, Katherine Johnson, Mia Musso, and Carrie Lee each had 2 hits. Katherine Johnson had 2 RBIs. Mia Musso, Carrie Lee, and Kristina Lam each had an RBI. Kristina Lam hit a long fly to knock in the first run with the bases loaded. Only a circus catch by the Castro Valley center fielder prevented an extra base hit. For the second time in three games Alicia Fong hooked up with Jessica Ravetti to throw out a runner at home plate in the 6th inning. Jessica Ravetti also threw out a runner stealing third on a perfect throw with Mia Musso, the shortstop, covering. Katherine Johnson gave up 7 hits, 2 walks, and hit one batter. She struck out the Castro Valley clean-up hitter with the bases loaded to end the game and give the Hornets the title in the 10th Annual Standley Cup. The Hornets ended the tournament with a 4-1 record.

Katherine Johnson pitched a seven inning complete game five-hit shutout, striking out nine, while walking only one. The Hornets scored single runs in first, second, and fifth innings. They scored two runs in the fourth inning and broke it open in the sixth inning when they scored five runs on five hits. The Hornets had four doubles and a triple in their twelve hits. Katherine Johnson also helped herself offensively by getting three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Megan Averitt, Mia Musso, and Drew Jones each had two hits and an RBI. Jessica Ravetti had a bases-loaded double driving in three runs. Alex Konstantino had a perfect bunt base hit between first and second base and had two RBIs.

The Hornets displayed a well rounded effort in their first game of the year. They had 15 hits and at least one hit in every inning. Seven players had at least one hit. Eight players scored at least one run. The Hornets also displayed a strong defense to keep Sonoma Valley in check. Katherine Johnson, Megan Averitt, and Mia Musso lead the Hornet offense with three hits apiece. Katherine also had a solo home run, scored three runs, and had three RBIs. Jessica Ravetti caught a fine game, had two hits, and an RBI. Carrie Lee pitched a 7-inning complete game allowing only 3 hits and one unearned run striking out four and walking one. Carrie also had a single, double and three RBIs.
Hornets 7, Maria Carrillo 2
The Hornets broke open a tie game in the top of the seventh scoring five runs to get the win. Hits by Megan Averitt, Carrie Lee, and Katherine Johnson's fourth RBI of the day resulted in a 2-run lead in the first inning. Maria Carrillo scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning. They tied in on a solo home run sixth inning. Hornets small ball also caused four errors by the Maria Carrillo defense. A leadoff hit by Alicia Fong and an RBI double by Drew Jones started the seventh inning rally. Bunts by Anastasia Scheichl and Alexis Konstantino put pressure on Maria Carrillo's defense, caused errors on the sacrifice bunts put runners in scoring position with no outs. Mia Musso's two run single capped the rally and put the game out of reach. Katherine Johnson duplicated her teammate's effort in the first game by pitching a 7-inning complete game allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out three. Katherine had plenty of help from her defense as Alexis also made a nice running catch to end the first inning by going a long way to flag down the foul fly. Anastasia made a backhanded lunging catch on a pop fly in short right field.
